Blood Feud By Alyxandra Harvey

Friday 30 March 2012

I picked Blood Feud up as a quick, light read and it was. Blood Feud is the second book in the Drake Chronicles series (see my review for My Love Lies Bleeding). Blood Feud follows different characters to MLLB. Instead of Lucy and Solange the point of view switched to Logan and a new character; Isabeau  St. Croix.

Isabeau is searching for the evil vampire who turned her and then buried her alive during the french revolution. She is sent to the new queens coronation to try and form an alliance between hers and the Drakes clans. She then discovers that she is not the only one wanting revenge and they both have a common enemy, Montmarte. The one thing she didn't count on is meeting Logan Drake, personally my favorite of the Drake's. Blood Feud tells you about a different type of vampire, the hounds. If you liked the narrators of My Love Lies Bleeding don't worry they are still in Blood Feud.
Here's the synopsis:

"It's been centuries since Isabeau St. Croix barely survived the French Revolution. Now she's made her way back to the living and she must face the ultimate test by confronting the evil British lord who left her for dead the day she turned into a vampire. That's if she can control her affection for Logan Drake, a vampire whose bite is as sweet as the revenge she seeks. The clans are gathering for Helena's royal coronation as the next vampire queen, and new alliances are beginning to form now that the old rifts of Lady Natasha's reign have started to heal. But with a new common enemy, Leander Montmarte—a vicious leader who hopes to force Solange to marry him and usurp the power of the throne for himself—the clans must stand together to preserve the peace he threatens to destroy."

I enjoyed Blood Feud quite a bit more than the first, maybe because I preferred the main characters. I now have a new favorite Drake as well - Logan. I finished Blood Feud in a few hours and liked it. This isn't the kind of series that makes you say wow but it's more of a simple unserious story. Blood Feud is highly predictable and I knew exactly what was going to happen from the beginning but it didn't bother me too much. I would reccomend this to anyone in need of a light vampire novel. I would give it 4/5 stars
What did you think of it?

Clockwork Princess Teasers

Thursday 29 March 2012

Note: There is no cover yet so I'm sharing a fan made one with is really awesome.

Anyone who has read Clockwork Prince will get what I mean when I say that I CANNOT wait another year for Clockwork Princess. It's all the more frustrating when you know it's already written and just sitting there waiting to be read. And then you find out that not only is it only written it's release date has been moved from November 2012 to March 2013!

Luckily I came across some spoilers that occupied me for a while so I didn't explode. Me being the nice person I am, you get to see them right here on my blog. If it wasn't obvious enough this post will contain SPOILERS. Just in case you didn't get that from me saying I was sharing teasers.

Teaser #1
“Would you?” said Gabriel to Will,  hotly. “If it was your family?” His lip curled. “Never mind. It’s not as if you know the meaning of loyalty —”“Gabriel.” Gideon’s voice was a reprimand to his brother. “Do not speak to Will in that manner.”

Teaser #2

“He began it,” Cecily said, jerking her chin at Will, though she knew it was pointless. Jem, Will’s parabatai, treated her with the distant sweet kindness reserved for the little sisters of one’s friends, but he would always side with Will. Kindly, but firmly, he put Will above everything else in the world. Well, nearly everything.

Teaser #3

Jem knotted his fingers in the material of Will’s sleeve. “You are my parabatai,” he said. “You said once I could ask anything of you.”

Teaser #4

Jem drew the bow back and let the arrow fly; it struck the creature in the side. The massive demon worm writhed in agony, undulating as it swept its great, blind head from side to side, uprooting shrubbery with its thrashings. Leaves filled the air and the boys choked on dust, Gideon backing up with his seraph blade in his hand, trying to see by its light.“It’s coming toward us,” he said in a low voice."And indeed it was, the arrow still protruding from its wet, grayish skin, humping its body along with incredible speed. A flick of its tail caught the edge of a statue, sending it flying into the dry ornamental pool, where it shattered into dust.“By the Angel, it just crushed Sophocles,” noted Will. “Has no one respect for the classics these days?”

Teaser #5

And the gold of her ruined wedding dress.

Teaser #6

“A very magnanimous statement, Gideon,” said Magnus.“I’m Gabriel.”Magnus waved a hand. “All Lightwoods look the same to me.”

What do you think? We have a ruined wedding dress, Jem asking Will something important, Magnus being his awesome self and of course even when Will is in trouble he can come up with witty remarks. What are your predictions? If you want to know mine feel free to ask :)

Torment By Lauren Kate

Wednesday 28 March 2012

I feel guilty for letting my blog get over run by meme's so I thought I will cut some, but now I can't decide which ones to cut so I'd appreciate people to tell me which one they like least and I will cut the one with the majority of votes.

For now I am reviewing a book I read in January and for some reason forgot to review it. Torment is the second in the Fallen series (see Beka's review of Fallen) so it may contain spoilers for Fallen. I was very excited to read it but the moment I opened the book I remembered I didn't even like Fallen that much so I have no idea why I wanted to read this but I did. Torment is set literally minutes after Fallen ended- you know the big fight scene which I still don't know what the point of it was - so Luce has to spend some time away from Daniel hidden in a boarding school for Nephilim where she begins to learn about the shadows that have haunted her for her entire life. She realizes that Daniel - the guy she's been in love with for all of a day - may be hiding something from her about her other lives.

"Hell on earth.

That’s what it’s like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel.
It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts—immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.
At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn't told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous.
What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else? "

I thought this book was worse than the first but it wasn't the most horrible book I've ever read. If you look past the annoying heroine, the clingy over protective angel and the pointless fights it's actually an okay book. Daniel I hated in the first and now even more, the same goes for Luce. The one character who I actually like is Cam, the evil guy. Yes good guys are so overrated nowadays. There were a few new characters including Shelby- a girl with anger issues and Miles- he was okay. I am being forced by a friend to read the third book 'Passion' because apparently it gets better. That doesn't seem likely but you never know. I would give Torment 2/5 stars (I may come back and change this later because it seems a bit harsh!)

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I'd Play Hooky With

Tuesday 27 March 2012

Before I do my top ten I have a confession to make... I had to Google what 'playing hooky' was. I honestly have never heard that phrase before. For those of you who are as clueless as I am 'playing hooky' means skipping work or school (according to Google anyway). So top ten book's I'd skive for? Well I have much to many books for that list so I will do top ten books I would reread while 'playing hooky' (does the phrase annoy you as much as it does me?)
So my top ten:

1) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: I loved these books and they would probably be my first choice to reread, I'm not sure I would ever read Mockingjay because that just depressed me.

2) The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare: I adore TID, Cassandra Clare is an amazing writer and the characters she makes are also amazing: Will Herondale in particular. I would love to reread these but I just don't have the time. I may just have to take a day off...

3) The Morganville Vampires Series by Rachel Caine: This series has never once bored me and I've read 11 of them. The twelfth is coming out really soon so I would love to reread these before it does.

4) Bloodlines by Richelle Mead: ADRIAN! Need I say more? No, I really love the story it's self is just awesome, it used to be my favorite but I've read so many awesome books since this.

5) Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick: I liked this series and I'd like to see Patch again while I try and get hold of Silence.

6) Noughts And Crosses by Malorie Blackman: Definitely a favorite of mine and one of the more serious books I've read, very hard to explain. Read my review!

7) Before I Die by Jenny Downham: A very sad book which I can hardly remember, I liked it at the time so I'm hoping to like it as much a second time.

8) Strange Angels by Lili St. Crow: Quite a good series and I tried reading the latest and I was very confused so that has been put on hold until I reread the others.

9) My Name Is Memory by Anne Brashares: Really liked this book, a fast read for a day off.

10) The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer: I'm constantly dissing Twilight but it's hard to make fun of something that you can't remember at all.I definitely should read this again.

So what's your TTT?

My Love Lies Bleeding By Alyxandra Harvey

Monday 26 March 2012

Sorry this has been my first review in a while but I have been REALLY busy! I'd never read a book by Alyxandra Harvey but I had heard great things about her books so when I saw this in my -badly stocked- library I had to take it out. My Love Lies Bleeding is about Lucy and Solange. Solange is a vampire, the first female to be born, and Lucy is her best friend- a human. Solange is in danger because vampires, vampire hunters and everyone in between seem to all want her dead. Her brothers and family are highly trained to protect her though so she is not easy to kill. Many unlikely alliances form all with the same purpose. They are all determined to keep Solange safe but she's just as determined to look after herself, even if it puts her in danger. I apologise in advance for the synopsis because it is very spoilerish but it's the official one on the back of the book so it's no fault of my own.

"The Drakes are rather different to your usual neighbours. They are vampires and some of the members of the family date back to the twelfth century. One of the children, Solange, is the only born female vampire known and, as such, she poses a direct threat to the vampire queen. Her best friend Lucy is human, and when Solange is kidnapped Lucy and Solange's brother, Nicholas, set out to save her. Lucy soon discovers that she would like to be more than just friends with Nicholas. But how does one go about dating a vampire? Meanwhile, Solange finds an unlikely ally in Kieran, a vampire slayer on the hunt for his father's killer."

My Love Lies Bleeding is a very quick and light read. It is highly predictable and quite cliche but I think that is what makes it good. I really enjoyed it mostly because of the Drake brothers. I loved them all - all seven of them; Connor, Quinn, Sebastian, Marcus, Duncan, Logan and of course Nicholas. My favorites being Logan - the flirty, full of himself brother - and Nicholas - the sweet mysterious brother. Lots of reviews I read were saying that the amount of characters made the book confusing but personally I think every brother had a different personality and were all completely individual. I am looking forward to hearing more from them. I didn't just like the brothers though, there was also Kieran. He was a vampire hunter but I really liked him. The main character Lucy annoyed me slightly but I quite liked Solange, she was more 'real' even though she was the Vampire. Some of the romances, I feel, were a bit quick but then again in YA they always are. I would recommend this book to Vampire lovers or those people who just want a quick read. It's not serious, it has no message, it's just a good book. I would give it 4/5 stars.

My favorite quote:
“All right.” Lucy shouldered her way to my side and made a waving motion as if they were annoying flies. “Shoo!” She narrowed her eyes. “I said shoo.”
They dispersed, mostly startled into moving. Only Logan remained, leaning casually against the wall.
“Darling, I’m not some insect to be chased away.”
“Darling?” She snorted amiably. “You’re not ninety years old, either.”
He straightened. “I’m charming,” he informed her. “And women like endearments.”

Musing Monday (6)

I'M BACK WITH VENGEANCE! Yes that's right I have revoked Beka's blogging privileges (joking she can come back whenever she likes) and I really missed blogging. Lets have a round of applause for Beka for filling in for me. Anyway it's that time of the week again, the day that (nearly) everybody hates. Monday!  So that also means it's time for Musing Monday which is of course the highlight of your week. MM is hosted over at Should Be Reading.
Today's Musing asks:
Have you ever found a book out of the blue, read it, and then had it be surprisingly good — one that stuck with you for years? If so, what book was it?

My Answer:
Before I DieWell this is a hard one because I read a lot of books that stay with me but I think I would have to choose Before I Die by Jenny Downham. It's about a girl called Tessa who is dying from leukimia but she's determined to do everything on her list before she dies. These things include Drugs, breaking the law and becoming famous. I really enjoyed this book and I read it years ago. Somehow I hadn't even thought it was a sad book but the last few pages made even me shed a tear.

Synposis:
Tessa has just months to live. Fighting back against hospital visits, endless tests, drugs with excruciating side-effects, Tessa compiles a list. It’s her To Do Before I Die list. And number one is Sex. Released from the constraints of ‘normal’ life, Tessa tastes new experiences to make her feel alive while her failing body struggles to keep up. Tessa’s feelings, her relationships with her father and brother, her estranged mother, her best friend, and her new boyfriend, all are painfully crystallised in the precious weeks before Tessa’s time finally runs out.

The Golden Lily And Black Dawn First Chapter's Released!

Wednesday 21 March 2012

Hey everyone, very short post here and about The Golden Lily again - hopefully your as excited for it as I am and not getting annoyed at my constant posts. The first chapter has been released! I just read it and It was SO good. It should tide you over until the book comes out in June. Less than three months but still way too long!! Anyway without further ado, to read it click here. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Remember that last dramatic sentance in Bloodlines?

And we have the first two chapters of Black Dawn by Rachel Caine. Another book I am totally excited for! Black Dawn comes out a bit sooner than The Golden Lily; It comes out on the first of May. A little over a month! Anyone who read Last Breath will know just how epic - and I don't use that word very often - it was. So to read the first two chapters go here.

And read my reviews of Last Breath and Bloodlines!!

WWW Wednesday (3)

Hello everyone. Don't you just hate being ill? I know you get a day of not doing anything but I think I would rather have loads of work to do than this. You may have gathered, I'M ILL! To top it all off I can't even catch up on my reading (which means you will have to wait a bit longer for a review) because I can't see. Yep my vision is blurred. I'm literally writing this blind, luckily I'm familiar with my keyboard so I know where all the letters are. So you must excuse any spelling mistakes, I will come back and check when I regain my sight. Anyway enough of my complaints here's my WWW Wednesday. WWW Wednesday is hosted over at Should Be Reading.
Here's my answers:

What are you currently reading?

I'm currently reading Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. So far it's OK but it is dragging on quite a bit. I'm hoping that it will redeem it's self before the end because if it goes any slower I will be behind on my Goodreads challenge and no one wants that!

What did you recently finish reading?
I recently finished Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I found it quite good and loved the romance of it. It actually progressed slightly instead of jumping straight into it like a lot of Young Adult books at the moment. It got 4.5/5 stars from me. To check out my review go here.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Yes, yes I know ANOTHER book in the same series. It seemed like a good idea to get all three out of my library at the time but now I'm contemplating reading this another time. It is possible to read too much from one (or two in this case) author. I really wanted to read Matched by Ally Condie but someone got there first and took it out. Don't you just hate that? Because you know the person with it is going to take forever to finish it and by the you would have bought the book yourself. It always happens!!!

So what books are on your WWW Wednesday? Oh and whose excited for Friday? Why? Because The Hunger Games is released in cinema's of course! I promised myself I wouldn't be dragged into the Fan girl hysteria but it's too late for me now. I'm SO excited!!!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books On My Spring TBR List

Tuesday 20 March 2012

Hello everyone, time for another Top Ten Tuesday hosted over at The Broke And The Bookish.
Today's topic is the top ten books on your spring TBR List.

My Top Ten Books Are- in no paticular order ...

Black Dawn by Rachel Caine -
I really need my next fill of Morganville!
The hotly-anticipated twelfth instalment in the Morganville Vampires series
In Last Breath, the rain brought a new and dire threat to Morganville and its vampires... their ancient enemies, the draug. Now, the vampires are fighting a losing war, and it will fall to the residents of the Glass House: Michael, Eve, Shane and Claire, to take the fight to an enemy who threatens to destroy the town, forever. Lovers of Morganville, rejoice: Black Dawn takes the intrigue, romance and nail-biting suspense of the series to its highest level yet!

The Calling by Kelley Armstrong -
I liked the first so the second's bound to be good!
Maya and her friends--all of whom have supernatural powers--have been kidnapped after fleeing from a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set, and after a terrifying helicopter crash they find themselves pursued by evildoers in the Vancouver Island wilderness.

Fever by Lauren DeStefano -
I need to know what happens next, Wither was awesome!
Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.
Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness. The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary. In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever

The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead -
More Adrian!! Need I say more?
Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives. Sydney would love to go to college, but instead, she’s been sent into hiding at a posh boarding school in Palm Springs, California–tasked with protecting Moroi princess Jill Dragomir from assassins who want to throw the Moroi court into civil war. Formerly in disgrace, Sydney is now praised for her loyalty and obedience, and held up as the model of an exemplary Alchemist.  But the closer she grows to Jill, Eddie, and especially Adrian, the more she finds herself questioning her age-old Alchemist beliefs, her idea of family, and the sense of what it means to truly belong. Her world becomes even more complicated when magical experiments show Sydney may hold the key to prevent becoming Strigoi—the fiercest vampires, the ones who don’t die. But it’s her fear of being just that—special, magical, powerful—that scares her more than anything. Equally daunting is her new romance with Brayden, a cute, brainy guy who seems to be her match in every way. Yet, as perfect as he seems, Sydney finds herself being drawn to someone else—someone forbidden to her. When a shocking secret threatens to tear the vampire world apart, Sydney’s loyalties are suddenly tested more than ever before. She wonders how she’s supposed to strike a balance between the principles and dogmas she’s been taught, and what her instincts are now telling her.
Should she trust the Alchemists—or her heart?

Where She Went by Gayle Forman -
The first made me cry but was amazing all the same!
It's been three years since the devastating accident . . . three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever. Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Juilliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future - and each other.
Matched by Ally Condie -
I've been wanting to read this for ages AND It's one of the few books
actually in my library (it's a small library!)
Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.  The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare -
I love CC and I loved the TID series so this must be good!
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy? This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. .

At Graves End by Jeaniene Frost -
I have this but haven't got round to it yet
It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield’s life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she’s successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat’s worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover’s finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger. As if that wasn’t enough, a woman from Bones’s past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat’s about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she’s learned as a special agent won’t help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself—and Bones—from a fate worse than the grave.

Bloodfever by Karen Marie Moning -
The first was ok but I need to carry on the series to see why
everyone's obsessing over it
I used to be your average, everyday girl but all that changed one night in Dublin when I saw my first Fae, and got dragged into a world of deadly immortals and ancient secrets. . . .
In her fight to stay alive, MacKayla must find the Sinsar Dubh—a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over the worlds of both the Fae and Man. Pursued by assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she can’t trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and powerful men: V’lane, the immortal Fae Prince, and Jericho Barrons, a man as irresistible as he is dangerous. For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them.

Ill Wind by Rachel Caine -
Like I said above I need my Morganville fix but Black Dawn
doesn't come out for a while so this will do for now
Joanne Baldwin is a Weather Warden. Usually, all it takes is a wave of her hand to tame the most violent weather. But now, she's trying to outrun another kind of storm: accusations of corruption and murder. So, she's resorting to the very human tactic of running for her life...
Her only hope is Lewis, the most powerful warden known. Unfortunately, he's stolen not one but three bottles of Djinn-making him the most wanted man on earth. Still, she's racing hard to find him-before the bad weather closes in fast...

So what's your TTT?

Musing Monday (5)

Monday 19 March 2012

Hello everyone, time for Musing Monday! Hosted at Should Be Reading.

Today's question is:
Would you choose to review a book if its description sounded interesting but the cover was terrible?

My answer:
Well I have to admit I am guilty of judging a book by it's cover, It's one of the main things I look for in a book because you would think that if someone cared so much about a book then they would care enough to make the cover perfect. If the description was good enough I would ignore the cover. The only problem is I like to show the covers off on my reviews and who wants to see an ugly cover. Anyway I think I would choose to read it but I may not be as excited to read it.
So what's your Musing Monday?

The Golden Lily - New Synopsis

Sunday 18 March 2012

Hello everyone, I know what your thinking. 'You've already shared the synopsis with us Emily!" And yes you would be correct in thinking that but...
I went with the Goodreads synopsis and I just found a waaay better one on Richelle Mead's website. I must warn you it is quite spoiler-ish so if you haven't read Bloodlines DON'T READ THIS! I'm so excited!!!

Here it is (It's long!):

"Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives. Sydney would love to go to college, but instead, she's been sent into hiding at a posh boarding school in Palm Springs, California–tasked with protecting Moroi princess Jill Dragomir from assassins who want to throw the Moroi court into civil war. Formerly in disgrace, Sydney is now praised for her loyalty and obedience, and held up as the model of an exemplary Alchemist.

But the closer she grows to Jill, Eddie, and especially Adrian, the more she finds herself questioning her age–old Alchemist beliefs, her idea of family, and the sense of what it means to truly belong. Her world becomes even more complicated when magical experiments show Sydney may hold the key to prevent becoming Strigoi—the fiercest vampires, the ones who don't die. But it's her fear of being just that—special, magical, powerful—that scares her more than anything. Equally daunting is her new romance with Brayden, a cute, brainy guy who seems to be her match in every way. Yet, as perfect as he seems, Sydney finds herself being drawn to someone else—someone forbidden to her. When a shocking secret threatens to tear the vampire world apart, Sydney's loyalties are suddenly tested more than ever before. She wonders how she's supposed to strike a balance between the principles and dogmas she's been taught, and what her instincts are now telling her.
Should she trust the Alchemists—or her heart?"
So who do you think the 'forbidden' person is? I'm positive I know. The synopsis doesn't tell us anything about it but I'm still hoping for a bromance between Adrian and Dimitri. It could happen! So tell me your predictions.

Beautiful Creatures By Kami Garcia And Margaret Stohl

Friday 16 March 2012

Hello everyone, I just finished Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I started this book with no clue what it was about, all I knew was I liked the cover but I am glad I did. Beautiful Creatures is told from Ethan's point of view which is unusual for me as I'm used to books always being from the girls point of view. I really liked it though.

This book is about a guy called Ethan who has lived in the same boring town all his life, nothing changes everything works like clockwork. Church on a Sunday, reenactments every year but Ethan has never felt like he truly belonged there unlike the others seemed to. Everything is normal. That is until Lena Duchannes arrives, she's the first new person in years and if that's not strange enough she's Macon Ravenwood's - the town's 'shut in'- niece and everyone hates her. Everyone except Ethan, to him she seems familiar and is a reminder of the freedom he craves. Could they be together though? There are more things that are against them than Ethan knows.
Here's the synopsis:

"In Ethan Wate's hometown there lies the darkest of secrets ...
There is a girl. Slowly, she pulled the hood from her head.
Green eyes, black hair. Lena Duchannes. There is a curse.
On the Sixteenth Moon, the Sixteenth Year, the Book will take what it's been promised.
And no one can stop it. In the end, there is a grave.
Lena and Ethan become bound together by a deep, powerful love.
But Lena is cursed and on her sixteenth birthday, her fate will be decided.
Ethan never even saw it coming."

I really enjoyed this book, I wasn't sure at first because as I said before it was told by a guys point of view. Luckily Ethan isn't the kind of guy whose thoughts you just wouldn't want to know. I quite liked nearly all of the characters in this book - yes even Lena - I really liked Ethan and I liked the way he acted. He wasn't the stereotypical 'hero' but I'd say he was very heroic. BC is a very unique book that had me guessing for a while, I didn't even guess what Lena was for a while and that's unusual for me. I would definitely recommend this book and I will give it 4/5 stars (see not an awkward number!).

My Favorite Quote:
"I pushed her hair behind her ear. "Maybe you just have to fall for one."
I said it, just like that. No stupid jokes, no changing the subject. For once, I wasn't embarrassed, because it was the truth. I had fallen. I think I had always been falling. And she might as well know, if she didn't already, because there was no going back now. Not for me.
She looked up at me, and the whole world disappeared. Like there was just us, like there would always be just us, and we didn't need magic for that. It was sort of happy and sad, all at the same time. I couldn't be around her without feeling things, without feeling everything.
"What are you thinking?"
She smiled.
"I think you can figure it out. You can read the writing on the wall."
And as she said it, there was writing on the wall. It appeared slowly, one word at a time.
You're not the only one falling."
